Bryzgalov Struggles, Flyers Lose 5-1 to Montreal
The Flyers were coming into Montreal last night expecting to win, the Habs have been struggling this year, their defense is losing their major piece in Andrei Markov, Markov is still rehabbing his knee and who knows when he'll actually come back. The Habs offense also is dealing with injuries as Scott Gomez is out.
Early on it looked like everything was going according to plans, the Flyers were dominating and Jaromir Jagr scored his 3rd goal in 2 games to put the Flyers up 1-0. Late in the 1st though the Habs got a powerplay and Yanick Weber scored the buzzer beater to tie the game at 1. From then on, well, the Habs took control of the game. Ilya Bryzgalov struggled pretty much all night, the 2nd goal for the Habs should never have been scored. When you're sitting down on the ice, the puck shouldn't slip through your 5-hole. 3rd goal, well, another bad bounce burned the Flyers, the puck deflected and then right to the tape of Max Pacioretty who buried it. Pacioretty was at it again this time picking up the dirty goal in front as Matt Walker well....I don't exactly know what he was doing...but he sure left Bryz with no help at all as Bryz couldn't cover the puck and it resulted in 4-1 Habs. The Habs would pick up another goal that Bryz just didn't look good on once again as Michael Cammalleri put it in the back of the net.
Now while the defense hasn't looked strong at points this year and some of the goals on Bryz haven't been his fault, a lot of them have been. I know it's early to be criticizing him like this, but so far he's not impressing anybody. He's looked lazy out there at times, and has let in a bunch of flukey goals lately. It's early yes, but he needs to play better, Homer didn't pay him $51 million to play like this. And yes Pronger's out, but that's why we got him, to get pressure off the defense, that way maybe if Pronger did get hurt, we wouldn't have to worry as much if Bob was starting. Ok, rant over.
Zac Rinaldo and Erik Gustafsson were called up today as Brayden Schenn broke his left foot while blocking a shot last night. Well, looks like Sean Couturier will be back on the 3rd line. Schenn didn't look too good while he was up and hopefully he isn't sent back up for the rest of the year, let him rehab, and let him play the season out in Adirondack. It might be for the best.
Tonight the Flyers go up against the Winnipeg Jets, the Jets, despite their new location, are still the same team, they're not a good team and are 2-5-1 on the season. In theory, this should be an easy win for the Flyers....but we all know how that's gone so far this year. No word yet on who will start tonight but I'd assume Bob will be in net. Hopefully the Flyers can take care of business tonight and play a full 60. LET'S GO FLYERS!
