Today the Flyers traded young defenseman Kevin Marshall to the Washington Captials in exchange for forward Matt Ford. Marshall played a total of 10 games this year for the Flyers and even though it was a little amount of time, we saw some of Marshall's skills and what he could bring to the team.
Matt Ford is 27 years old and has been playing in the AHL for his whole career. His best season was last year as he notched 42 points for the Lake Erie Monsters. This season for the Hershey Bears Ford has 28 points in 38 games.
In my opinion, I think the deal was a bad one for the Flyers but we'll see. I would've liked to see more out of Marshall before we did anything with him especially because of how young Marshall is and how the defense can play at times.
With Pronger's career looking more and more like it's coming to a sad end, and Kimmo also entering the twilight of his career, the Flyers could use the defensive depth which Marshall helped provide and with a defense getting up there in age, a guy like him would've been nice to keep.
