Game 1 of the ECSF series between the Flyers and Devisl got off to the start that many expected, all Devils early on, and the Flyers making a late charge. Zach Parise got the first goal as after a turnover behind the Flyers net, Parise got the pass and beat Bryzgalov to make it 1-0 Devils. The Flyers would strike back though in the 2nd as Danny Briere was alone on a breakaway and beat Brodeur to make it 1-1. Soon after, the Flyers got the lead on a rebound goal by JVR, his first of the playoffs. The Devils weren't done yet though as Travis Zajac beat Bryz on the powerplay to make it 2-2. Not to be outdone, the Flyers answered with a PP goal of their own just 4:19 into the 3rd with a top shelf one time blast by who else, Claude Girouuuuuuuuuuuux. Being the Devils though, they came back with a soft goal given up by Bryz of the stick of Petr Sykora. Just like game 1 vs the Pens, this game would need OT to settle it. It looked like Briere had ended it early in OT but after the replay it was obvious he kicked it in. Now usually there's a let down after something like that happens, somebody forgot to tell the Flyers I guess. Shortly after, Briere got a slapper by Brodeur and the Flyers won game 1 4-3.
One player who looked like he definitely enjoyed the long layoff, was JVR. It was easy to tell that he got a lot healthier over the break. Reemer was flying out there and showed the signs of the performance he had in last year's playoffs.
For the Flyers tonight the goal is simple, don't let Brodeur handle the puck too much but still get pucks deep. That's what the Flyers adjusted to throughout the game and got better at. And well, of course, avoid the slow start. Maybe the biggest key though, is to not let Bryz handle the puck. After the many game 1 mishandles, he needs to just stay in the crease, the way he tried to play the puck was just....wow. Nevertheless, if Bryz keeps playing well, Flyers should be ok. Now, let's get to 10 knock knocks, and take a 2-0 series lead. LET'S GO FLYERS!
