Giroux Shines in Return, Flyers Defeat Stars 4-1
By Kyle Frey (@Phillyfan_KFrey)
The Flyers came into Dallas last night and all eyes were on all-star center Claude Giroux as he made his return from a four-game absence with a concussion.
The Stars came out firing. Just 56 seconds into regulation Michael Ryder put a wrister by Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Later in the first period the Flyers answered as Giroux netted his 17th goal of the season. From then on the Flyers dominated. Wayne Simmonds tallied the second goal as he continued his hot streak. Jaromir Jagr, definitely happy to see Claude back, scored his 11th goal of the year. Finally, Andrej Meszaros ripped a wrister by Stars goalie Richard Bachman.
On the night Giroux had 4 points and looked like the same player before the concussion. While this is a great sign, there's still room for worry especially after what has happened with Sidney Crosby.
The Flyers continue to battle the injury bug with players like Brayden Schenn, Erik Gustafsson, Sean Couturier, and Chris Pronger out of the lineup. They still lead the East by a point over the Boston Bruins despite all the injuries.
Tomorrow night the Flyers face off against the New York Rangers. The last time the Flyers played against the Rangers was a forgettable game. The Flyers were shutout by the Rangers 2-0 at MSG. They return to MSG hoping for a much better result and to even the season series at one game each before the Winter Classic matchup at Citizens Bank Park.
